Myanmar’s Landmine Crisis

Empowering local people to demine their communities

Myanmar now has highest number of landmine casualties in the world. Across the country, landmines are having a devastating effect, not only causing death and injury, but also destroying livelihoods.

However, no international donors are funding any landmine clearance. As a result, Advance Myanmar is setting up a pilot project in response to requests from landmine affected communities, who until now are powerless to address an issue which results in death, injuries, displacement and poverty. We are working with groups on the ground and an NGO with experience of demining to develop a pilot project to clear landmines.

This project aims to establish a demining team made up of local people, professionally trained and with high quality equipment, which will carry out demining to enable communities to return to their homes, farms and businesses.

You can support our Landmine Project with a donation here.
