At Advance Myanmar we provide emergency aid at times of crisis, but also the campaign and advocacy support organisations need to help tackle the root causes of the conflict, and work for the long-term solutions that will bring human rights and democracy to Myanmar.

Why your will is important
Your will is your way to make sure your loved ones are looked after, and that the causes you care about continue to make a difference to people’s lives.
If you don’t have a will, your estate could be legally divided in a way that goes against your wishes. Having an up-to-date will is important for you and your loved ones as it ensures your wishes will be carried out exactly as you wanted. This support is very significant for Advance Myanmar.
How to add a gift to your will
Consider the type of gift you’d like to leave. There are three main types of gift you can leave in your will:
A share of your estate
Also known as a ‘residuary gift’, this is a percentage of what remains of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. This is a popular choice as it means your gift keeps in line with inflation as time goes by.
A specific sum
This is a gift of a set amount of money, also known as a ‘pecuniary gift’.
A specific item
This could be something of value such as jewellery, a painting, property or shares.
Talk to a solicitor
We recommend that you discuss your will, and the type of gift you might like to leave to Advance Myanmar, with a solicitor.
The value of your gift to Advance Myanmar will be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is applied, so it could reduce the amount of tax paid. Your solicitor will be able to discuss how this may affect your estate and beneficiaries.
