On 28th March 2025 Myanmar was hit by a major earthquake. It struck near Mandalay in central Myanmar, and was so powerful the whole country was impacted, as well as neighbouring countries.
Since the earthquake struck, Advance Myanmar has been able to send over £80,000 to local civil society organisations and to activists on the ground, who are helping those affected by the earthquake. We have been able to reach people quickly, because we work closely with local organisations who reach people others don’t. Your generous support has enabled us to help thousands of people with food, drinking water, mosquito nets, shelter and materials for reconstructing homes.
Please donate now to the Advance Myanmar Emergency Earthquake Appeal.

The earthquake could not have come at a worse time, with the Burmese military engaged in a brutal war against the population as they resist military rule following the latest coup in 2021. Around 5 million people have already been forced to flee their homes, now thousands more have lost their homes. While we will probably never know the true number of people killed in the earthquake, independent Burmese media have estimated that over 4,300 people have been killed and over 6,500 injured.
Even while people were struggling with the impacts of the earthquake, the Burmese military continued airstrikes, drone strikes and artillery attacks. The Burmese military also impose some of the most severe restrictions on humanitarian aid anywhere in the world. However, they are also only in full control of around 20 percent of the country.
Your donation will go to local civil society organisations and to activists on the ground who are helping those affected by the earthquake, providing food, shelter, emergency supplies, and helping people to rebuild their homes.
We are prioritising funding going to help people who are not getting help elsewhere, including the areas of Myanmar where the Burmese military ban the UN and other aid agencies from operating.
“In times of such adversity, it is inspiring to witness a group of people like you come forward to lend a helping hand. Your act of kindness is a powerful reminder of humanity’s capacity to come together and support one another in times of crisis.”
